How can I file down my toilet tank lid to make it fit under a low counter?

I just put in a new toilet and now the toilet tank lid is too tall to fit under the counter.

How can I file the lid down or cut it down to fit under the counter?

If you can not raise the shelf. Only thing I would know to do is make a new slide on lid of plastic
