When your mass airflow sensor goes bad or is starting to fail you'll notice symptoms such as lean or excessive rich idling, jerking and hesitation during acceleration, an engine that drags or hesitates while idling or under load.

Other symptoms of a failing or bad mass airflow sensor are, hard starting of engine, or an engine that stalls shortly after being started or an engine that is very hard to turn over.

And your engine may also have a form of hiccups when the mass airflow sensor has gone bad.
