The fastest way to heal a shoulder impingement is to rest and apply some ice packs or heat to your shoulder can also reduce pain and inflammation.

You can also take some over the counter or even prescription pain medications and even do exercise such as improving range of motion, posture and strength.

Shoulder impingement occurs when the tendons of your rotator cuff become compressed or even irritated within your shoulder joint, which leads to pain and limited movement.

The shoulder impingement often happens when the space that is between the top of your arm bone also known as the humerus bone and your shoulder blade also known as the scapula narrows and causes the tendons and the bursa which is a fluid filled sac to rub against the surrounding bone.

Shoulder impingement is also known as rotator cuff impingement.

Things that can cause shoulder impingement or rotator cuff impingement are repetitive overhead movements, bone spurs, inflammation and age related changes.

Inflammation also known as bursitis which is inflammation of the bursa or tendonitis also known as inflammation of the tendons can narrow the space and contribute to the development of impingement.

Wear and tear on your rotator cuff tendons can make them more susceptible to impingement.

Abnormal bone growth on the acromion which is part of the shoulder blade can reduce the space and cause shoulder impingement.

And swimming, tennis, or even certain jobs that require you to reach overhead can also result in shoulder impingement.

The symptoms of shoulder impingement are weakness, limited range of motion, pain at night, pain with overhead activities and pain that is often felt in the front and side of your shoulder, which may also radiate down your arm.

Lifting your arm, reaching behind your back or throwing a ball can also be painful with shoulder impingement.

And the pain that can occur at night with shoulder impingement can make it difficult for you to get a good nights sleep and you may also have difficulty in raising of your arm or rotating your shoulder.

And you may have muscles that feel weak due to pain.

Treatment for shoulder impingement include rest and avoiding of activities that aggravate the pain and applying of ice packs or heat to your shoulder can also reduce pain and inflammation.

You can also take some over the counter or even prescription pain medications and even do exercise such as improving range of motion, posture and strength.

In some cases corticosteroid injections may be used to reduce inflammation and pain and in some cases surgery may be needed in order to repair the rotator cuff tear or remove bone spurs.
