Daytime urinary frequency syndrome of childhood is also known as pollakiuria or extraordinary daytime urinary frequency, which is a condition in which a previously toilet trained child, experiences an increase in their daytime urination frequency, and often without other signs or symptoms.

Daytime urinary frequency syndrome of childhood or pollakiuria is characterized by frequent urination, which sometimes occurs as often as every 5 minutes to 10 minutes, and also a sudden urge to urinate, although often without pain, daytime wetting or any other signs of infection.

The pollakiuria condition often begins suddenly in children who are already toilet trained.

And children with daytime urinary frequency syndrome or pollakiuria may also urinate very often, and sometimes as much as up to 30 times to 40 times a day and pass small amounts of urine each time they urinate.

A child with daytime urinary frequency syndrome may also experience a strong urge to urinate, even when their bladder is not full.

While the child may urinate at night, it's often not to the same extent as during the day.

With daytime urinary frequency syndrome there is often no pain with the urination or any daytime wetting or incontinence or fever.

And physical exams, a urinalysis and sometimes renal bladder ultrasound often show no abnormalities in children with daytime urinary frequency syndrome.

The exact cause of daytime urinary frequency syndrome is not known, although it's thought to be benign and self limiting and is often sometimes triggered by a change in routine or stress and it often resolves on it's own, often within a few weeks or months.

Treatment for daytime urinary frequency syndrome involves addressing of any underlying anxiety or stress and sometimes the use of medications such as oxybutynin or Ditropan to calm an overactive bladder.
