If a bug dies in your ear it can result in pain, irritation and even possible infection or ear damage.

Most bugs in your ear don't cause any serious harm, although bugs in your ear either when alive or dead can irritate your ear and ear canal and even scratch your eardrum.

If you have a bug in your ear and it has died you should remove the dead bug from your ear promptly to prevent irritation and complications.

Similarly if you have a live bug in your ear you should try to safely get it out as soon as possible if it hasn't come out on it's own.

Living bugs are more irritating than dead bugs in your ear, as living bugs may bite or sting you in your ear before they die.

A dead bug can even cause a crawling or tickling sensation and may even result in itching or pain.

A dead bug in your ear can also create an environment in which bacteria can grow in your ear and lead to infection.

A bug that is alive in your ear can also scratch or even in some cases could puncture your eardrum when it attempts to escape your ear or if it is crushed.

If the bug is not removed fully from your ear, parts of the bug could remain in your ear and cause further irritation or even infection.

If you have a dead bug or a live bug in your ear you should gently tilt your head over to the side to see if the bug will fall out on it's own.

If the bug is dead and won't come out you can try gently flushing the bug out of your ear using some warm, but not hot water using a syringe or a bulb syringe.

If you're not able to remove the bug from your ear yourself or if you experience any pain or hearing loss or other symptoms you should see a doctor or an ENT specialist.

Avoid using cotton swabs or other objects inserted into the ear which can push the bug further in and cause more damage.

And avoid hitting your head or shaking your head vigorously as it could be dangerous and can make the situation worse.
