Hi everyone! I’m planning to order a made-to-measure dress online but I’m nervous about messing up the measurements. Do you have any tips or guides that explain how to do it properly at home? Would appreciate any advice!

To take your measurements, use a flexible measuring tape and if possible have someone assist you for better results.

Stand naturally, wear minimal and form fitting clothing and keep the measuring tape snug but not tight against your skin.

Then record each measurement carefully as you go.

For measuring your bust, measure around the fullest part of your chest and keep the measuring tape parallel to the ground.

For measuring your waist, find your natural waist, which is often the narrowest part of your torso, often below your last rib.

Then wrap the measuring tape around this point and ensure that it's snug but not tight.

For measuring your hips, measure around the fullest part of your hips and your buttocks, ensure the tape measure stays parallel to the floor.

And depending on what you're measuring for, you may also need measurements like leg length, arm length and shoulder width.

That’s a great question, especially when fit makes or breaks a custom dress. Have Dress Store actually provides a really helpful size chart and measurement guide right on their site. It walks you through each step with clear visuals and explanations, covering everything from bust and waist to hollow-to-hem. You don’t need professional tools—just a measuring tape and a second person to help. What makes their guide stand out is that it's tailored to bridal and eveningwear, not just generic clothing sizes. Getting it right the first time ensures your dress comes back with a perfect fit, no unexpected surprises.
