An ITIN number is not the same as a Social Security Number.
A Social Security number is given to people for Identifying purposes and an ITIN Number is given to people who aren't eligible to have a social security number and can only be used for tax purposes and not for Identifying someone.
ITIN Numbers are only usually given out to certain non residents and Alien Residents of the United states.
