When your banana is black inside it's often a sign of over ripeness although it can also be a sign of spoilage or even Black Center Syndrome.

Black Center Syndrome in bananas is a condition in which bruises or impacts during the handling of the bananas cause the center to ripen and darken.

A black core inside of a banana is not always an indicator that the banana is bad or unsafe to eat.

If the banana is just slightly black then the rest of the banana is often safe to eat, but if it's really black then it should be thrown out.

Overripe bananas can still be eaten although they may not taste as good and look unappealing.

Bananas contain enzymes which cause the bananas to soften and darken as they ripen and when they become too ripe, the enzymes can react with oxygen and cause the flesh of the banana to turn black and in this case the bananas are still safe to eat.

You should not eat a banana if you're allergic to bananas or if the bananas are black, overripe or mushy as they could contain harmful bacteria that could make you sick.

If you have kidney disease or you're taking certain medications that affect your potassium levels you should limit your intake of bananas and if you have diabetes you should also limit your intake of bananas as they are high in carbohydrates and could spike your blood sugar levels.

You should no longer eat a banana if the banana has gone bad or has mold, is fuzzy, white, gray or greenish or if the banana has a rotten smell or fermented smell or is leaking.

The signs that a banana has gone bad is the bananas will have a rotten smell or fermented or alcohol like smell and the banana peel will become brown.

However even when a banana peel has gone somewhat brown the banana can still be safe to eat as long as it does not smell bad.

If the banana is leaking any fluid out of the banana peel then it's also another sign of the banana having gone bad.

To keep bananas fresh for 2 weeks and to make bananas last longer wrap the stems of the bananas in plastic wrap and secure the plastic wrap around the stems of the bananas with a tie or rubber band.

The banana stems produce ethylene gas that spreads to the rest of the bananas which speeding up the ripening process and wrapping the stems contains the gas and keeps them from getting to the bananas and extends the shelf life of the bananas.

The bananas should also be stored on the counter or table and not refrigerated.

The reason bananas shouldn't be refrigerated is because the enzymes that enable bananas to ripen are inhibited at cold temperatures.

As the enzymes become inactive in the bananas the other enzymes operate more efficiently and some can cause cell damage to the bananas and cause the skin of the bananas to blacken.

Bananas are best kept at room temperature unless they've been peeled and then in that case they should be refrigerated.

If you eat bananas every morning the bananas will help aid digestive health, promote satiety and give you energy and improve your health.

Bananas are a good source of micronutrients including vitamin C and potassium.

Bananas are high in copper and low in sodium and low in cholesterol.

Bananas are good for lungs and lung health due to the potassium and fiber contained in bananas.

Bananas are good for your liver and good for fatty liver as well.

Bananas are a great source of resistant starch, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6 which are good for the health of your liver and overall health.

The amount of bananas you should eat a day is 2 bananas a day to reap the health benefits of bananas.

You can eat more if you want too but eating too many bananas can cause stomach cramps, diarrhea and even weight gain.

Bananas reproduce without seeds through suckers that are also called pups that appear to be separate and smaller trees that grow next to the adult banana tree and they often offshoot from the roots of that tree which means they are also the same plant attached at the roots.

Bananas last longer in the fridge than they do sitting out.

However when it comes to refrigerating your bananas the timing is everything as refrigerating the bananas will slow or even stop the ripening process which preserves the bananas in their current state.

So if you want the bananas to ripen they should be kept out.

Bananas are bad when they have visible signs of mold and if they have a bad smell or have gone rotten and gotten really mushy.

When bananas are rotten and have gone bad they will also have an fermented smell or alcohol smell to them.
