A frankfurter is a cooked and smoked type of sausage that originated from Frankfurt Germany.

Frankfurters are often made from pure pork that is finely ground and seasoned with some pepper, salt and other spices.

A frankfurter is similar to a hot dog or even a wiener, but a true frankfurter has a specific texture and is historically made out of pork.

Frankfurters legally carry it's name only if it is from the Frankfurt region.

But in the United States, the term is often used interchangeably with "hot dog," which refers to the sausage which is served on a bun with condiments.

The name frankfurter comes from the city in German called Frankfurt Germany.

And traditional frankfurters are made out of finely ground pure pork and seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and sometimes sugar, nutmeg and even mustard powder.

The meat for frankfurters are ground to a paste, encased and then given a signature firm texture.

And in it's hometown, frankfurters are often boiled in water, but in the United States, Frankfurters are often grilled or even cooked in other ways.
