To do cheese on toast in the oven, toast the bread under the broiler or in a regular oven until the bread is golden.

Next top the bread with some cheese and then cook for a few more minutes in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly and ensure that the bread has a deep golden brown color and watch carefully to prevent the bread or toast from burning.

Preheat your oven to 450 F and butter the slices of bread and place the bread butter side down on a baking sheet and bake for a couple of minutes to melt the butter.

Then top the bread with some sliced cheese or shredded cheese and then return it to the oven to bake again for 5 to 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

If you want to add some additional flavor to the toast you can add more butter, herbs, mayonnaise, mustard or any other ingredients into the cheese mixture for added flavor.

And after cooking you can prop up the toast on a fork or plate to allow steam to escape and prevent it from becoming soggy and for the best experience eat or serve immediately.

The best cheese to melt on toast is Cheddar cheese although you can use any other cheese including Mozzarella or even goat cheese or American cheese.

I prefer cheddar cheese when melting it on my toast as it has a good flavor and melts really good as well.

Other good cheeses to melt on your toast are Fontina cheese, Havarti cheese, Gruyere cheese and Monterey Jack cheese.

If you want a milder tasting cheese that also melts great you can use American cheese or even young Gouda cheese.

If you want a more bolder and more complex flavor of cheese on your toast along with a great melt, then using a combination of sharp cheddar cheese as well as a nutty and savory Alpine cheese like Comte cheese or Gruyere cheese are great choices of cheese to melt on toast.

Medium sharp cheddar cheese is also great and brings a richer flavor for melting on toast.

Young soft or semi soft cheeses like Swiss cheese, Havarti cheese or Gruyere cheese are great for melting on toast and have a high moisture content that means they are especially adept at turning molten.

Even Pepper Jack cheese is great for melting on toast and gives the toast a spicier twist.
