The kind of container that should never be used in marinating is a metal container.
Metal containers should never be used in marinating as the acids in the marinades can react with the metal and could cause toxic reactions and alter the food's flavor and even spoil the food that you're marinating.
Instead when marinating foods you should use food safe containers that are made of stainless steel, food grade plastic or glass, which can prevent unwanted chemical reactions.
While stainless steel is a metal, it's one of the safe metals that can be used when marinating as the acids in the marinades do not interact with the stainless steel metal.
So stainless steel metal is okay to use as a container to marinade in but other metals including aluminum should not be used with marinades.
You can also use a food safe plastic bag or zip top bag to marinate foods such as meat.
