The cause of explosive diarrhea after eating can be a result of digestive issues like irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, dumping syndrome or eating highly trigger foods like spicy foods or greasy foods.

Other causes of explosive diarrhea after eating are having an overactive gastrocolic reflex, food poisoning, or chronic digestive issues like Celiac disease or even lactose intolerance.

An inability to digest specific proteins or sugars, like lactose (dairy) or gluten (wheat), forces your body to rapidly flush them out and can lead to the explosive diarrhea after you eat these foods.

Artificial sweeteners, such as the sugar alcohols like sorbitol and mannitol are also notorious for causing sudden, watery explosive diarrhea.

And the body also struggles to digest high fat and grease foods as the excess fat is a struggle to digest quickly by the body, which leads them to the colon, where they pull in extra fluid and can lead to the explosive diarrhea.

Irritable bowel syndrome, results in an exaggerated gastrocolic reflex that causes your colon to spasm and push waste through at an accelerated rate.

And conditions like ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease can cause chronic inflammation that results in severe post meal urgency and explosive diarrhea.

And rapid gastric emptying where the food moves from your stomach to your small intestine far too quickly, often after stomach surgery can lead to explosive diarrhea after eating.

Even illnesses and food poisoning as well as malabsorption syndromes can lead to explosive diarrhea after eating.

Conditions like small intestinal bacterial overgrowth or SIBO or bile acid malabsorption disrupt your body's ability to break down food, which results in sudden and loose poop and watery diarrhea.

And toxins and viruses or bacteria from contaminated food can also cause violent and explosive diarrhea within hours after eating.

Most mild and occasional bouts of explosive diarrhea after eating are nothing to worry about, especially after a heavy meal.

But if you experience any symptoms or explosive diarrhea that lasts longer than 48 hours or you have any blood, mucus or severe dark color in the explosive diarrhea or signs of dehydration including dizziness or extreme thirst or high fever and or severe abdominal pain you should see a doctor or go to the ER.
